I kicked off my 2017 racing season with the Hot Chocolate 15K! This was my third year running this race and it did not disappoint. It was not my fastest race ever, but I had SO much fun. This race reminded me why I love running.

The Start Line

The Hot Chocolate race series does not offer day of packet pick up, so you must visit the race expo to pick it up. This makes race morning go a little smoother as all you have to do is park and get to the start line. I was supposed to start in corral A, but given my lack of long distance training, I decided to start a few corrals back.

The Race

I knew a lot of people running this race, and it’s always fun to see them out on the course. I found Carleeh before the race and we decided to run together. 15K is equal to 9 miles and some change, so it was good to have some company for the race.

As I mentioned earlier, I wasn’t well trained for this race. I have been doing lots of working out, but not much running as the winter weather has been so awful. I definitely took more walk and selfie breaks during this race.  It was good to just sink into a pace, enjoy the company and the miles. That’s the best part of running!

I was also able to enjoy the 3 sweet stations along the course. My favorite were the marshmallows!!

Finish Line

The best part of this race is the finish! You get the epic Hot Chocolate Finisher’s Mug that is full of all the sweet treats. Hot chocolate, chocolate fondue, a banana, rice crispy and a few other treats.

If you run the 15K, you also receive a super sweet *no pun intended* medal.
