Fashionably Fit

Today we are talking’ FASHION! I love clothes and trying new trends. I can’t say that I have always been this way though…

Since loosing a lot of weight, I have enjoyed shopping for clothes much more. It is much more fun to be adventurous when you accept and love your body.  A lot of my fashion sense is natural, but I also have help from my extremely stylish and talented sister.  She is so naturally talented, it’s amazing. And then to top it off, she has a degree in style and design, so she’s my go to girl when it comes to putting outfits together for big events.

When we were in California my husband and I were at a business conference for a few of the days, so we were “dressed to impress”. Here are the 5 outfits that I wore over the course of the conference.

Day 1:
Black romper
Tory Burch “Miller logo thong”-pewter
Statement necklace (from Nordstrom, not sure of brand)
Tory Burch logo leather wrap bracelet-Pewter
What I loved: this outfit was SO comfortable! I felt stylish but also like myself.  Nothing is worse than wearing something and not feeling like yourself in it. Easy to wear! (Thanks sissy!)

Day 2:
“shoes speak louder than words” top (from Nordstrom BP)
Chelsea 28 blazer-black
“Boyfriend” denim crops
Black and gold pumps (not visible here)
Black and gold accessories
What I loved: again, COMFORT! My favorite part of this outfit was the shirt. Not only do I love what it says, but I also love the cut. You can’t see it well in this picture, BUT its kind of a boxy shape. It is not quite a crop top, but its shorter than a normal shirt and little bit baggy.

Day 3:
Joie blue sleeveless top (best Nordstrom Rack find ever!)
Top Shop track pants
Blush cardigan
Nude pumps
Silver accessories (long necklace, bracelet and earrings)
What I loved: the track pants! I wasn’t sure about this style, but after trying them on, I found that the “dressy” track pants are my preference (vs the knit ones) You can pair with a flowy top or a tight fitting top. They go great with flats or heels. So versatile and again, comfortable!

As my sister would tell you, accessories can make or break an outfit. A perfect example of this is how she helped me style the 2 outfits pictured below.

This is another style I wasn’t sure that I could pull off, but let me tell you, jumpsuits are the BOMB! They are so easy to style, fun to wear, and again, comfortable! I got so many compliments about this outfit. We were fortunate enough to go to a cocktail reception on Saturday night, and this is what I wore. I have lots of layered bracelets, a long pendent necklace from House of Harlow, and matching earrings. The accessories made the outfit pop. The best part is, I can accessorize it differently the next time I wear it.

Day #4
Dress (borrowed from my sis, not sure of brand)
Hinge faded denim jacket
Kate Spade statement necklace – teal
Isola T-strap sandals – nude
Gold bracelets and earrings
What I loved: the denim jacket! It has a little bit of stretch, and can be worn with so many different outfits and styled so many different ways. I also love these shoes. I got them last summer, and they are so comfy, but really take an outfit to the next level!

Here is the key takeaway that I learned when I was packing for this trip: bring lots of accessories, AND plan your outfits ahead of time! Nothing is worse than being on a trip and thinking “wait, what was I going to wear?”
I also learned – I have so much wardrobe potential waiting in my own closet!
I have been getting better about buying pieces that can be worn many different ways, which helps. But, as my sister showed me,  you can wear the same outfit, but make it look completely different by buying a different necklace and bracelet — you don’t always have to go find a new dress! That is fun, but it also takes time, and sometimes we don’t always have time to go shop for new things. Next time you are feeling in a “clothing rut” – go check out the accessory department and see what you can use to jazz up an outfit that you already have!

P.S. Time has been flying by! I am in the process of writing a post recapping my whole time in California, and all the details of my trip will be included, so be on the look out for that this weekend!

#sweet150challenge PRINTABLE!

How many of you are participating in the #sweet150challenge on Instagram with me??? (if you aren’t on Instagram, you can participate just by commenting below this post with your progress!)

If you don’t know what the #sweet150challenge is, it is running, walking or jogging 150 miles by August 31st! I know it may sound daunting, but it is totally doable. Even if you are getting a late start, do not give up! You may surprise yourself.

As I was telling my friend the other day, any miles that you walk count! Whether it is at an amusement park, out sightseeing on the weekend, or purposeful exercise, the point is to get out and move! This challenge came about as I am training for my first half marathon (in October) and I wanted to make it fun!

It works out to 3 miles a day, 5 days a week. Of course you can walk more or less each day, but you will be surprised how fast the miles add up! AND — even if you only make it to 75 miles, or 100 miles by the end of August, that is more that you may have done without participating in the challenge! It’s all about pushing ourselves to be better than we were yesterday.

Use this printable that I created to keep track of your miles! I can’t wait to see what progress you make! Remember to use the hashtag #sweet150challenge on Instagram so I can see your posts and follow along with you!

Post-Holiday Weekend “Aftermath”

How many of you feel “bad” for things that you did or ate this last 4th of July weekend?? Did you over-indulge on something or skip a workout?

Guess what??? We are all human!!!
Did you enjoy this last weekend? If you enjoyed yourself, cut yourself  a little slack. If there is something that you can learn from the mistake that you made, reflect on it, learn from it and move on! Get back on track today and make the commitment to yourself to not let something from a few days ago continue to bother you.

As far as holiday weekends go, this 4th of July weekend overall wasn’t too bad for me. I have had much worse in the past.  However, I am guilty of feeling “bad” about something I ate and lecturing myself for not being able to get myself under control quicker.
The reality is, as I reminded myself, we only live once, and the french fries that I told myself I wasn’t going to eat but had a few of anyway will NOT affect me for the negative if I dont let them. I chose to eat them, so I ate them. Done and over! As I said previously, in reflecting on the weekend, it really wasn’t all that bad. For some reason, we are able to over exaggerate the circumstances in our head and make it into a much bigger guilt-trip for ourselves than necessary.
There is no need to beat ourselves up so much for things we chose to do. As I said earlier, learn from the choice (whether good or bad lesson) and move on.

I love this video posted by one of my #fitfriends and inspirations, Betty Rocker (aka: Bre). She is super fit, full of knowledge and has really motivated me in my journey. This video really hit home for me when I was reflecting on this weekend. There are so many great points – it’s a must watch! (it’s not Monday, but just humor me) Enjoy!

Who wants to join me in the #sweet150challenge !?!

I recently started training for my first half marathon in October 2014, and I wanted to make the training plan FUN! Running is mentally hard for me, so the more fun I can make it, the better.

The #sweet150challenge is running, walking or jogging 150 miles by August 31st. If you are walking or running 5 days a week, this averages out to 3 miles a day.  If you are training for a half marathon then you may rest certain days and run higher mileage on other days. The point is, this is NOT just for people training for a race. With the weather being nice, its a great chance to get outside and get some miles it. If 3 miles is too much to do at once, you could break it up into 1 mile 3 times a day, or 1.5 miles twice a day… you get the idea!

I hope you will join me in this challenge – make sure to use the hashtag #sweet150challenge so I can see you pictures on Instagram.  150 miles is no joke, and what a fun way to reach some fitness goals and be more active this summer!

How to Pick the Right Workout Program

A turning point for me in my fitness journey was when I found the right workout program for me. I used to think the only thing I could do was go to the gym – use the cardio machines, take a spin class and/or lift weights.  I had been on my fitness journey for a long time when I realized that I wasn’t loving the exercise I was doing.

There is nothing wrong with going to the gym and doing all of those things if you LOVE doing that and are very passionate about it. The problem for me was, it didn’t motivate me. It didn’t make me want to get up out of bed everyday and high-tail it to the gym. I got bored easily and felt like working out was a chore. However, since I have found a program that I truly LOVE, working out is no longer a chore. I look forward to it every day, and the results speak for themselves.  Of course the most fit person is going to have days where they do not feel like working out; however, this feeling is much more seldom  now that I found a workout program that  motivates me to give it my all and push myself each and every day.

There are many other forms of cardio and even strength training that are not boring and mundane. I actually got in better cardiovascular condition by NOT using the cardio machines at the gym! Crazy-cool huh?!?

I want to share this information with you because it changed my fitness journey remarkably. Do you enjoy the workout program that you are currently doing? Is it giving you results? Are you bored? Maybe you are just starting your fitness journey and want to find the perfect workout! Whatever the case may be, this information will be helpful to you.

Fill out this short QUESTIONNAIRE  and watch my video below with my tips on how to pick the RIGHT workout for you!

Let’s make “gettin our sweat on” fun!!
