If you have read my blog for sometime, you know I LOVE summer. Spring has sprung which means that summer is just that much closer!!! Here in the PNW, we’ve been having true spring weather the last few days with sunshine and rain happening within a matter of hours. The cherry blossoms are here too! This means it’s time to update wardrobes to get ready for this kind of weather. Today I’ll be giving you a peek into Brooks Running 2017 spring line. Get ready, it’s awesome!
Every year, I look forward to the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. It happens every July and is the perfect time every year to pick up a few new items to carry you through the rest of the year. Technically the sale is to highlight fall fashions, but usually they have a few wardrobe staples that you can take advantage of on sale. I was able to shop the sale before the general public, and rounded up my favorite workout clothes and activewear picks to share with you. There is some really great stuff this year, so be sure to take advantage before the sale ends on August 8th!
First things first, shoes! Every year they always have awesome Nike’s on sale at the anniversary sale & this year was not any different.

These are excellent quality and are one of the basic essentials on sale. For $34 you get an awesome pair of leggings!! If you are into colorful leggings, they come in lots of fun colors too!

Interested in attending an event in the series? Find out how at the bottom of this post.
The Style Boss Event
Each session features a variety of styles that are hand picked by local fashion bloggers. The first session in the series, Boss Style, featured styles appropriate for the work place. Julianna of Blush & Camo, Haley of Me and Mr. Jones, and Lisa of Story of My Dress were the panelists and all contributed different ‘looks’. There was a mix of business and casual, perfect #girlboss attire! All the outfits were great for a day at work or a conference, and some could even be turned into a evening outfit for happy hour or a date. My favorites are below.
It’s all in the Details
Who should attend?
Anyone! These events are perfect for someone who wants to learn about the current fashions and have a fun night out. I had a great time and highly recommend you attend an upcoming event if you can fit it into your schedule. It’s a great way to socialize with friends or meet new people. Gossip & Glamour knows how to throw a really fun event. You won’t want to miss these!
When is the next session & how can I attend?
Happy Monday! It’s bitter sweet that the #1millionminutes challenge with Sweat Pink is in it’s last week. Summer is drawing to an end!!! I love being active outdoors and that is one of the reasons I love summertime so much. It’s been a blast seeing what everyone has been up to and logging all of my minutes. It helped me be more mindful of my workouts and realize how much or how little activity I was doing.
While #1millionminutes is ending, I’m sure my girls at Sweat Pink have something awesome brewing for fall. I can just feel it. In honor of the last week of the challenge and the new prAna fall collection, check out my last mad-lib below.
When the 1 million minutes challenge started, I set out to achieve 2000 minutes. And I passed that goal by kicking booty and sweating my way to 2440 minutes!!!!!!
The best part of this challenge for me was that it kept me accountable. I probably spent the most time tracking my minutes while I was eating dinner & watching Food Network Star with my husband. (who doesn’t love some Food Network?!)
I was pumped to see so many Sweat Pink’ers joining in on the challenge and breaking a sweat while having fun. Jaime was one of my favorite people to stalk follow during the challenge because she killed it! (and always was doing fun & inspiring activities!)
I’m sad that it’s the last week but also excited that prAna is our sponsor because I’m coveting the Yoga for Life outfit which features the Graceful Wrap, Soleil Bra Top & Sapphire Legging and going to boogie my little heart out in hopes to win!(seriously, how cute is this outfit!?!?!?!?! I love it all together & I love each piece individually too)
Disclosure: this mad-lib was sponsored by prAna. All opinions are our own. We so appreciate you supporting the brands that support Fit Approach and the Sweat Pink community!

Summer is officially here! Well, maybe not officially per the calendar, but unofficially it is. The days are longer, the weather is warmer, and it’s time to get our summer clothes out! Today I am going to are the top 3 summer trends for 2015 and show you what I’m looking forward to wearing this summer.
Since summer is almost here, people are getting out their summer shorts, dresses, tank tops & bikinis. Are you ready??
If not, CONTACT ME!!! We can come up with a plan to get you summer READY!
So, what trends are big this summer?
- High-waist shorts
- Classic cool – laid back, simple fashion i.e.: distressed jeans
My favorite out of those 3 are the rompers! I used to really dislike jumpsuits, but now I am addicted. They are easy to dress up or dress down, and are so comfortable! Not all jumpsuits are created equal so you must be careful with brands. I will show you some of my favorite picks below.
These are some of my favorite styles for this summer from Nordstrom. I do have summer fashions that I love from other stores as well, but to keep this post a reasonable length I will focus on just one store. **I am not compensated by Nordstrom to write this post, I like their clothes and am writing this on my own** I like Nordstrom for their variety and selection, their customer service is amazing, the return policy rocks, and they have free shipping/free returns if you buy online! Plus right now you can get up to 40% OFF at the NORDSTROM Half-Yearly Salethru May 31st!

Instasculpt Skinny Jeans HERE
I love this whole outfit. The top is so much fun! It comes in a blue color as well. These skinny jeans are expensive, but they are called instasculpt for a reason! They are worth the price.

Another Wildfox graphic sweatshirt I love HERE
These Wildfox tops are so comfy and super soft. They are cute paired with white skinny jeans (as shown), blue jeans, or a pair of jean shorts. Throw on some Converse and you have a stylish yet comfy outfit. Pro Tip: look for Wildfox at Nordstrom Rack.

This romper is higher priced, but the quality this brand puts out is worth it. I haven’t tried this romper on, but generally Ella Moss fits wonderfully with flattering cuts. This brand is known for its durability, flattering cuts and classic styles. This is a perfect romper for summer. Pair with wedges to dress it up more and wear a cardigan on a cool night.

December weekends always seem to be really full. Full of activities, Christmas-ing, shopping, FUN, whatever it is. This last weekend was one of those “full” weekends.
It all started on Friday. I had been wanting a peppermint mocha, and while the skinny one from Starbucks isn’t horrible, milk irritates my stomach and they don’t have the almond milk option at Starbucks, so I decided to try to remake a peppermint mocha myself. It turned out pretty great actually. See my post with the recipe here.
I enjoyed it in my fun Christmas cup by our Christmas tree. It was so good and so easy, I’ll def be doing this again.
On Friday night, my husband and I went on a Christmas shopping/coffee date.
Thankfully the mall wasn’t like crazy and overrun. You all know that in December things can easily spiral out of control. If you think I am crazy for wearing those heels, they are actually really comfy. I am always looking for a reason to sport some cute shoes. Just wait till you see the pics from the rest of the weekend 😀
On Saturday I had to be to work VERY early. I planned to get up extra early so I could have time to workout in the morning and not be in a huge rush. I woke up at 5:15am on a Saturday! Like woah.
I was a total zombie for the first 30 mins, and then after I had some coffee, I made sure to put on some cute workout clothes (this top is from Old Navy!) and I was ready to WORK.
Then I started having second thoughts. I was having the best hair day of all time. I mean seriously my hair looked like I hadn’t even slept on it. Do you see my bangs in this pic??? Perfection for a Saturday morning!!! I was so tempted to workout later in the day, BUT knew that if I waited there was a 99% chance I wouldn’t end up having time. I was NOT going to let a good hair day stop me.
Then I was off to work. After I got off, I had planned to meet up with my mom and hit all the craft shows that were happening around town. For some reason the first weekend of December is like craft show central. Here is a fun fact about me: I LOVE CRAFTING!
Unfortunately it can get pretty time consuming and with everything I have going on right now, I don’t get to do much. Usually in December I end up making something. Last year I had a full on project table – check it out:
Coco (my cat) likes to help with crafts too 😛
Unfortunately this year I just have no time to make anything. More time for crafts and creativity is in my future plans.
I totally get the “manual creativity” from my mom, she is one of the most creative people. Seriously she could totally have a very successful Etsy store, but instead she prefers to just do it for fun and bless the people around her with her creativity and talent.
This is why it is so much fun to go to the craft shows with her! Every year there is one or two shows that just blow. your. mind. Everyone that has a table is like so talented. Then some of the other shows it’s just a bunch of pre made things which I don’t enjoy as much.
Here is one of my purchases from this weekend:Sunday seemed to be the fashion day of the week. I felt like I was going shopping in my own closet as this outfit came together. Have you ever felt like that?? I had never thought about pairing these together before! Here was my #OOTD (outfit of the day).
How cute is this necklace? So thankful my friend Sara introduced me to Kendra Scott jewelry! My outfits will forever be better 🙂
Hudson skinny jeans in black. Kendra Scott necklace. Chelsea 28 silk cami with lace. Halogen cardigan. Pink lipstick. Nude pumps
When I got home from church, it was time to workout. Instead of doing my workout first thing on Sunday, I made plans to do it later in the day since I knew I would have the house to myself.
PRO TIP: plan your workouts and make them non-negotiable, it’s a business meeting with yourself on your calendar. That is how I make sure to get them done on the weekend.
Post workout I had a DELICIOUS mug cake. Katie inspired me to try one about a month ago. It was so easy and yummy, but for some reason I hadn’t had one since. Sunday’s was the perfect thing to have before going to a party with tempting sweets and cocktails.
Not the best pic, but let me tell you it was yummy! I made it with a little almond milk (1/4 cup), 1 scoop Quest peanut butter protein powder, 1/4 egg whites and a pinch of baking powder. Microwaved for 1 minute. It was done! You make it in a coffee mug, and then I ate it out of this bowl, although you can certainly eat it straight out of the mug. I also made a chocolate drizzle with 1 piece of super dark chocolate and little tiny bit of coconut oil.
Then I met up with my sis and my mom in downtown for the Nordstrom Christmas shopping party.
Doesn’t red and sparkles just SCREAM Christmas?!? haha. I decided to ditch the heels this time and ended up wearing some black flats. Going downtown always involves lots of walking so I decided to take the easy route 🙂
The Nordstom party was so much fun because the store was decorated, there was a DJ, appetizers, cocktails, and lots of special offers from different brands/designers. They do it after hours so it feels “exclusive” even though there were a ZILLION people.
My sister was like, this is so fun it just makes you want to buy something. DUH! That’s why they do it! We laughed about that for a while. Despite their efforts, we did mostly looking and very little purchasing. It was so fun to be together, look at all the Christmas stuff and laugh at the women who had OD’d on champagne. 😛
I saw this shirt while we were looking around and it made me laugh so hard. I mean really?!? HAHA. See it still makes me laugh. I just had to take a pic with it. Too funny.
Then to top off the weekend, my new iPhone 6 came!!! I was eligible for an upgrade and I really couldn’t have timed that any better. Now I need to find a cover for it. Does anyone have any suggestions???
Such a seemingly random combination, I know. But I promise you that they tie together. (recipe is at the bottom of post)
My sister’s birthday was last week and she had a huge party to celebrate this weekend. It’s always fun to dress up and celebrate a new year in someone’s life – especially when it is your sister!
As I have mentioned before, my sister is very fashionable. (I keep telling her to start a fashion blog, we will see if she does :D) She told me that she wanted me to wear this black jumpsuit to her party. It is one of my favorite pieces of clothing that I own.
When I put the jumpsuit on Saturday night, it felt like it fit me better, looser in certain areas. It was a total NSV (non-scale victory) moment & I was excited!
When I bought it in July, it fit me just fine. It is always exciting to see progress and how your body is changing for the better. My favorite way to see progress is not on the scale, but the way my clothes fit.
As I was writing this blog post, I was looking for a picture of my sister and I and I came across a picture of me when I first bought the jumpsuit.
CONFESSION: seeing that picture made me a little upset because even though I felt the jumpsuit felt like it fit me looser when I put it on, I felt that I looked slimmer in it when I bought it.
Let’s see if you can see what I mean:
I’m crazy right? I am sharing this with you and being vulnerable because I want other women who struggle with comparison and body image to know they are not alone.
In hindsight I feel silly and foolish thinking that about the pictures. Our mind can play mean, dirty tricks on us. We have to be stronger than those mind games and know the progress we have made, enjoy the moments in life and not let comparison to our past rob us of that joy.
Now looking at these pictures as I write this, I don’t see a blaring difference at all. I am not larger in the picture on Saturday. If anything I am smaller in my upper body and hips.
Your body will go thru changes when you loose weight, try a new workout program for a period of time, train for a big event, etc. Take care of yourself, nourish yourself right, trust the process and embrace it. It’s a journey not a destination.
Have you ever struggled with thoughts like this? Let me know in the comments, or if that’s too personal send me an email (firstname.lastname@example.org)
ON TO THE NUT BUTTER CUPS!
My sister asked me to bring a treat to share at her party. I made some brownies (her request) and also decided to try and make some “healthy” chocolate nut butter cups. They were inspired by Betty Rocker.
Let me start off by saying these were SO much easier to make than I was expecting. Peanut butter cups sound hard right?! Well – they sounded hard to me, and I am here to tell you that these were one of the easiest things I have made in a long time. 🙂
I made extra dark chocolate almond butter cups. The combo sounded perfect, and let me tell you, it WAS!
Recipe card is below! (makes 6 large nut butter cups)
I used EXTRA dark chocolate (85% cacao) – I loooove dark chocolate, the darker the better. You can you whatever chocolate you wish, milk, dark, extra dark…
First, start by melting the chocolate. I just melted it in the microwave. You can also do it on the stove in a water bath or in a double boiler. I just microwaved it in 30 second intervals until it was all melted.
While melting the chocolate, get your muffin tin and place 6 muffin liners in tin. If you have a mini-muffin tin, that would also work and the recipe would make 12 instead of 6. I only had regular size muffin liners, and you MUST use muffin/cupcake liners because otherwise the nut butter cups will stick and you will never be able to get them out!
You can use peanut butter, cashew butter or walnut butter – whatever you like. I plan to experiment with all of them!
They are so delicious and so easy to make! They were a huge hit at her party too. Next time I want to try making them in my mini-muffin pan, I just need to find mini-muffin liners 😀
What nut butter would you make these with?
- 2 dark chocolate bars (I use 70% dark or higher)
- 1/2 cup almond butter (or other nut butter)
- 1 T honey
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1. Melt chocolate in a double boiler, or create a water bath using a heat-safe bowl and a pan of water. You can also melt your chocolate in the microwave. When finished, set aside.
- 2. Combine nut butter, honey and vanilla in a small bowl and mix well.
- 3. Line cupcake tins with liners.
- 4. Evenly distribute about 3/4 of your chocolate amongst your cupcake tins.
- 5. Make even sized dough balls out of your nut mixture, and place them on the chocolate.
- 6. Pour the remaining chocolate over top.
- 7. Spread the chocolate out so it covers the filling.
- 8. Cover and freeze for approximately 2 hours.
- 9. Remove from tins and remove liner.
- 10. DEVOUR!
