#AwareWithPink [Friday Five]

Happy Fri-YAY! Today in partnership with Sweat Pink & Aftershokz, I am sharing with you the five things that make me feel empowered!

1. Good Tunes

There is nothing like some good tunes to get you pumped up for a workout. My top 3 songs right now are: Gold – Kiiara, 679 – Fetty Wap & Remy Boyz, Let Me Love You – Justin Bieber & DJ Snake. Of course I LOVE to listen to these on my AfterShokz Trekz Titanium headphones! I especially love them on a run, because it allows me to be aware of my surroundings while running πŸ™‚ img_7230

2. Giving Back

Nothing is more empowering than giving back to your community, especially if it’s a cause that’s close to your heart. Different ways I do this is either by running a race that supports a charity that I am passionate about, volunteering for a non-profit organization like Union Gospel Mission. I encourage you to find something in your community that speaks to your heart and get involved! 

3. Self Care

Self care is one of the best ways to feel empowered. It allows you to recharge and recharge yourself. It’s highly underrated. If you don’t currently partake in some sort of self care, you must give it a try. What does self care look like?! It could be yoga, meditation, running, working out, a massage, a manicure, spending time with friends or a quiet time for reading. Whatever recharges you and makes you happy! Think of it as ‘me’ time and make it a priority! 

4. Inspiring threads!

What you wear can help empower you to get sweaty + strong! Grab a cute shirt with a motivational phrase or something that you feel like a rockstar in. Pick up a new pair of yoga pants or put on your favorites that you already own. If you like what you wear when you workout, you definitely workout harder!

5. Friends who inspire!

I am so thankful that I have so many friends who inspire me + empower me to be the best version of me. I have met some of the most amazing people thru fitness and they never cease to amaze me. I have so many amazing people that I could feature here, but to keep it short, I’d like to spotlight Katie and Sarah. 
Katie works so hard as a P.A. in labor and delivery doing things I could never dream of. Every day, she brings saves lives and new lives into the world.  She is one of my best friends, and is always there to listen. She grinds hard in the gym and at work & inspires me to keep going on some of my hardest days. img_4134

Sarah is an amazing mom who makes motherhood look easy. I look up to her so much and hope to be a mom like her someday. She is a pilates instructor, personal trainer and one of the sweetest girls I have ever met. She inspires me to work hard and never quit. Also – post baby body GOALS!! img_4046

Sweating In LA – Blogfest [Part 1]

It is so hard to believe that a few weeks ago I was in LA having the time of my life at Blogfest. July was such a busy month with lots of changes and exciting things happening. Blogfest is one of them, it’s easily a HIGHLIGHT of my year. This was my 3rd year attending, and it definitely did not disappoint. IMG_5890

My most favorite part about Blogfest is the people. I think back to when I went the first year and knew no one. I honestly didn’t even know what I was getting myself into, but I had the TIME of my life. Going the first year was one of the best decisions I have made. What’s New in Life, My Workouts + Upcoming Plans [Giveaway]

Hi everyone!!! How is your summer? So far mine has been a whirlwind! So many fun things have been happening! I’m teaching a new class, my workouts have changed a little bit and I have some fun opportunities coming up that I want to share with all of you! There is also a giveaway for some plant-based protein powder, so be sure to enter at bottom of post!

Life: 

— I have mentioned this before, but I have started training people in the gym in addition to the online training I offer. I wanted to see people again in person, because I missed the interaction & I like hanging out at the gym. Doing it again has also made me remember all the reasons I don’t like it – no shows, difficult scheduling & inconsistency. 

— I am teaching SUP classes! The first one was today on Lake Washington and we had an absolute blast! Such a fun workout and a great way to enjoy some time outside. There is a beginner class as well as a SUP FIT class. They are available for 5 more weeks this summer. Click here for info on how to sign up! S U P F I T

— I have online training spots available for August! I am accepting new clients into online training programs starting in August. If you are interested, set up a free consult with me and we can talk more. It is $50 a month and you get a new workout every week! 

— I’m getting a puppy!!!! (OMG!) My dream of having a dog is coming true! My little Great Dane will be coming home in 2 weeks and I am so excited I could pee my pants. Don’t worry, he will get his own blog post. Here is a little preview pic. 

Training:

My workouts have changed a little bit since I ran the marathon. Now I am ‘”running for fun”. For me that is 3-5 miles, twice a week with a longer run on the weekend usually.  I’m also getting back to lifting weights consistently & working on building muscle + strength. I am loving that because I really missed that during the end of my marathon training. It’s not that I couldn’t weight train and run, I just didn’t have the time for it. I’m happy to be building some muscle again! 

I have been lifting 3-4 times a week, doing a few runs and I feel great. With training at the gym again, I have been eating a lot on the go. Good nutrition is important, especially for maintaining weight and/or gaining muscle. Protein bars and smoothies are my GO TO because they are so portable. My favs are Quest bars and the Amazing Grass Superfood plant-based protein. This is not a substitute for my green smoothies, but on days I can’t get one or don’t have one, all the added superfoods are AWESOME! 

Upcoming: 

BLOGFEST! I am heading down to LA later this week and I cannot wait to see all my SweatPink sisters + blog friends. This is literally the event of the year for me. I get to see so many people that I talk to online all year, and we hang out, workout & blog. All my favorite things!

Run, Make History & Help a Charity with United Relay!

I’m excited to announce that this Wednesday, April 27th, I will be running a 5K at Seward Park in Seattle to kick off the United Relay!! Seattle is the start the Red Route which will eventually end in NYC. There is a White Route taking off from San Fransisco and Blue Route taking off from LA on other days.

What is super cool is that the United Relay is making running history! This is the first non-stop running relay!! Together with 9,000 other runners, you can run across the USA. That would be a LOT to do alone, but it will be possible because of the team work. There will be a baton passed from runner to runner. There are group stages and individual stages. The 5K I will be running is a group stage. The individual stages are longer distances that have a lead runner and others can join in on the route as well.

All of this running is to raise money for charity. You can sign up to run any stage and any leg. There is probably one close to you since they are covering the whole US! Not only am I excited to see my Sweat Pink sisters and make running history, I am also excited to try out the new Aftershockz technology. The Business of Blogging: It’s Not All Sunshine & Roses

Let me start off by saying that I love blogging. While it has it’s challenges, it is also very rewarding. Having a blog has pushed me out of my comfort zone, opened doors, helped me learn about myself, introduced me to new people and given me some really cool opportunities. However, all of the good did not come without a lot of hard work and overcoming challenges. blogging-SMB

A common misconception is that blogging is all fun and no work. Ask any blogger and they will tell you that is far from the truth. Blogging requires a lot of hard work and sometimes you don’t get a lot of return. The thing is, any job that you truly love can look like fun and zero work, because the person is very passionate and loves what they do. Us bloggers tend to be like that. We all love blogging, so we make it look like tons of fun. While blogging can be a lot of fun, it’s not all sunshine and roses.

There is an array of challenges that a blogger can run into. First of all, writing a blog post doesn’t take 5 minutes. It requires planning, writing, images and pictures to name a few things. Second, all blogs are online, so if internet and technology isn’t cooperating, then you must figure out why. This last week I have had so many technical problems with WordPress (the online software I use to run this blog). It wasn’t letting me upload pictures or blog posts. I thought I had it fixed, but then it stopped working again. 

I’m pretty technologically savvy, but this was over my head. I had to contact WordPress and my web host to see what the heck was going on. On one hand, it was nice that it wasn’t “my problem” but at the same time, it was a very time consuming issue that I didn’t want to be dealing with. I couldn’t get work done that I wanted to get done and I couldn’t share anything that I had been working on. 

So why post this? There are a few reasons.
One, I wanted to let you in on some of the things we deal with as a bloggers. When I was at the Jujubeet grand opening last week, I was chatting with some other Seattle bloggers about just this topic. Blogging is fun but it is a lot of work!
Two, I suppose I felt I needed to explain why I had been silent all week. I know I don’t owe an explanation to anyone, but you guys are like family, so I wanted to share. 

Thankfully all the tech issues have been resolved & we are up and running again!! I will be sharing posts over the weekend as there are a LOT of exciting things going on and coming up.
