Transform. – Blogfest 2015

Inspire. Connect. Transform. That was the tagline/theme of the IDEA World Fitness Conference this year, and it was so appropriate because all of those things took place at the conference. I was totally inspired, I got to connect with other bloggers and fitness pros and I was also transformed in various different ways. It is hard to believe that it has been 2 weeks since I was down in Los Angeles sweating my booty off. TRANSFORM

My body
1) We spent a lot of time over the 4 days working out! My after some crazy awesome workouts, I was pretty sore. There were so many celebrity trainers in the house like Jillian Micheals, Jen Winderstrom, Gabby Reece, Beto Perez… and the list goes on!

2) I also got a chance to try a BRAND new workout called ‘Flexline’ which is created by the same people that created ‘Totally Drenched’ (that is Brittany Spears favorite workout!) IMG_0121It was killer! It’s the perfect combo of strength training and cardio. This class will for sure get you shredded! Be on the lookout for a whole entire post about Flexline in the future πŸ™‚ 

3) I am now the proud owner of a TRX strap! 
IMG_4635Don’t worry, TRX isn’t scary! It’s actually an awesome tool that makes body weight workouts much more effective. It does wonders for your core muscles. I cannot wait to dive in to TRX training! 

4) I got tons of new workout ideas and inspiration!  They are definitely gonna transform workout Wednesdays. One of my fav sessions was all about partner workouts.

5) Fitness is not only a physical transformation, it’s also a mental one. I was reminded of that by Dr. Jason Karp in one of the sessions –

“[in fitness] you are faced with a decision: either to back off because of the discomfort, or push thru the discomfort and discover what is on the other side” 

So very true! You have 2 choices and neither one is wrong, it’s to you to make that decision. I can say it feels so scary to push thru that barrier of discomfort, but once you find what is on the other side, it is so empowering! 11256161_391025774417743_1598209481_n

My business
1) I will soon be an NASM CPT! I have finally taken the leap and signed up for the certified personal trainer (CPT) course thru NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine). I have already gotten started and its gonna be a lot of work, but it’s gonna be so worth it. I am so pumped that I will have the credentials to train others effectively and help others on their fitness journey!

2) While at the conference, I was reminded through various experiences of how  much better something can be when you experience it with friends. Not only is it awesome to share the activity with others, it’s also great accountability. If your friends are gonna be there, you are more likely to show up!
So…since I am doing all these half marathon training runs I thought, why not share the love and start a free running group?! It’s something I have thought about doing and wanted to do, but always put it on the back burner. NO MORE! Here’s to more runs with friends. P.S. are you in the Seattle area? Do you run? 3) I also had an idea to start an outdoor bootcamp for month of August here in Seattle. Considering August is in like 2 days I need to hurry up with this. Haha!11 As much as it sounds like fun and I want it to happen, it may have to be a Fall 2015 or even a 2016 project. Unfortunately you can’t just go plop down at the park and workout. There are so many different aspects of it that I need to get set up before I start it. I have so many other things on my plate at the moment I don’t know how feasible this is. Maybe I will surprise myself πŸ™‚ I’ll keep you updated! 

4) Sweetblondesfitlife.com will have a new look! Yep, I am going to change up the layout of my blog. It needs a few improvements. There isn’t anything glaringly wrong with it, but I do want my older posts to be easier for you to find.

Yoga, TRX training, Cross-Fit???

Every sport has an “off-season” right? And for me, winter is my “off-season” to running. (A huge thanks to Tiffany for enlightening me on the fact you don’t have to run year around to love running) I really do enjoy running, and have missed doing it these last few weeks since the half marathon. The reality is, a lot of why I like running is because it lets me be outside. Nothing kills me more than being inside on a nice day. 

The nice days are almost gone. We have had such nice weather here this late into the year I really can’t complain. However, I need to start planning for winter when I get busy with work and don’t want to be outside in the driving wind and rain. 

Whatever I choose, I want to challenge myself. Running was a challenge for me, and now I love it. It has taken me to new heights both mentally and physically. 

Here are the things that I am considering:

1) Yoga
Screen Shot 2014-10-20 at 11.28.34 PMI love yoga, I can do it anywhere, it helps me get more flexible, it builds up great core strength, it’s relaxing, you learn new things about your body – what is there not to love about it.  If I was to dive into yoga, I would do flow yoga (my fav) but also challenge myself by practicing more inversions and trying hot yoga. 

2) TRX suspension training

Screen Shot 2014-10-20 at 11.04.41 PM TRX are these cool “straps” that are available at some gyms, but you can also install at home!!!! WOO! I love body weight training, and it is hard – it’s weight training using your own body weight. When you incorporate the TRX it takes it to a whole other level. I would love to explore this training more. I have tried a few things on the TRX but I’m not super familiar with it. 
This would totally get me out of my comfort zone and I would love to experiment with the cardio options available for using TRX as well.

This would be so cool to really dive into and get good at. I would love to become a TRX certified trainer as well. (how cool would that be!?)

Check out all the different kits available for TRX – the sky is the limit and it travels with you!  TRX-Big Workout. Small Package  In case you can’t tell, I’m pretty excited about TRX. It would be totally new to me, I could workout at home, build muscle and train my core and it could also travel with me because as long as I have a door I can use the TRX… very tempting option.

3) Crossfit

That would be me, dying on the floor.  Just kidding.
I am really curious about cross-fit. I have been meeting more people that do it and I hear that it would be a good compliment to running. I also have been in the mood lately to swing more weight around – and cross-fit is perfect for that!
When I lift weights at the gym, I usually spend most of my time in the free weights area. The last time I was there I just wasn’t feeling satisfied. Cross-fit has been pulling at my heart strings. I know it would be HARD and kick my butt the first few times because it is unlike any other workout I have tried. I am in really good shape, but from what I have seen cross-fit is a whole new world. Maybe I shouldn’t get so intimated by it.
I do really want to try it and see what it is like.  I found a cross-fit gym about 20 mins from me that has an “on-ramp” program that is a month long. You learn the basics and the moves so you don’t get injured. Sounds good to me. Then I could decide after that if I really wanted to stick with it or try something else.

Cross-fit would definitely challenge me in new ways, and I would love to build muscle and cardio fitness with that type of workout. The only downside is I could not do it at home – at least not where we are living now. I would have to drive to the cross-fit place everyday. 

4) Keep Running

I could keep running and suck up the rain and the wind. The Seattle Marathon is November 29th, and I could run in the half marathon…. it’s very very tempting!!!!! 

What do you think? Which new activity would you try?? I would love to try all of them, but unfortunately I don’t have the time to do them all at once. I will try them all eventually, but which should I do first?  Let me know!! I’d love to hear your opinion.
