One of my goals for 2017 is to share more about weight loss here on the blog. That is, after all, one of the reasons this blog even came to be. I have learned a lot over the course of loosing 80 pounds and maintaining it & I want to do a better job of sharing it. There have been lots of different experiences along the journey, and I’ve learned a lot about perseverance, patience, and myself. Of course, some lessons have to be learned for yourself, but I also feel that it might have been easier if I had an idea of what could possibly come. So, that is why I am committing to sharing more with you. Today, I am sharing a realization that is difficult but once your realize it, your perspective on weight loss changes.
The holiday season from Thanksgiving to New Years is full of lots of sweets and food traditions. Whether it is a cookie exchange at work, family get togethers or holiday parties, desserts and sweets seem to be around every corner. Even when you go to get coffee, sugary caramel brûlée lattes & peppermint mochas are calling your name. How do you get enough will power to say no to all these things?!
Not only is temptation everywhere, but there is the added pressure that this time only comes once a year so you better enjoy it while it lasts. What do you do? How can you squash your sweet tooth so your pants still fit yet not miss out on the flavors? Guess what, there is a way!
Sure a treat or two isn’t going to hurt, but most of us don’t stop at one or two. Last year I was able to loose weight during the holiday season and I felt better than ever in January. I found ways to enjoy the holiday flavors without all the added sugar and guilt so I didn’t feel deprived.
If you have been reading my blog, you know one thing I am passionate about is helping other people loose weight and feel better. I want to share with you one of the things that helped me the most last December, a collection of my holiday smoothie recipes. The best part is, it’s free! It’s my gift to you.
By making my protein shakes into delicious tasting treats, I was able to enjoy all the holiday flavors without all the added calories. In this PDF download, there are 10 recipes that have all the holiday flavors from pumpkin pie to gingerbread to eggnog. These smoothies are great for a quick breakfast, post workout or even as a dessert.
How do I get these recipes? It’s really easy, just click the big button below!

My birthday was 2 weeks ago… so crazy how time is flying!
Today I want to share with you how I spent my birthday this year and take a look back at how I have changed over the past few years.
I guess I am like wine, the older I get, the better I get. I know that sounds SO corny, but it’s proven to be true for me. Not only do the birthday celebrations get better, but I become a better person and I look better too! Check out this pic on my birthday over the years…
In 2013, my husband took the day off from work for my birthday. We went to downtown Seattle and spent the day together.
Birthday cupcakes had become a “tradition” when we were dating, so he made sure to get me a gluten free cupcake on my birthday. On a side note, those teal pants I am wearing in the pic don’t fit me anymore. 🙂
In 2014, he took me out to dinner at a super nice seafood restaurant in Seattle. It was some of the best seafood I have ever eaten. Then to top it off they brought me one of the cutest birthday desserts ever!!
Here are a few side by side comparison pictures from 2013 & 2014. The was a drastic physical change between 2013 and 2014, as you can see in these pictures. My face is slimmer and my mid section is much slimmer. The biggest change I made between those years was what I was eating. I also changed the kind of exercise I was doing, but the biggest impact was the change in food.
This year in 2015, I was in California for my birthday! (you can read my birthday post HERE) We started the year off right with a killer workout at Grit Cycle. I haven’t sweat that much in a workout for a LONG time. Every last inch of me was drenched!
Then we got cleaned up and my husband took me to dinner at Red O in Newport Beach. The name is kinda strange, but it is an AMAZING Mexican restaurant (I love Mexican food!).
This is one of my favorite pictures from my birthday celebrations. It’s totally candid and you can see my genuine happiness here. To me, this is a foreshadowing of what this year brings: family, laughter, happiness and fun.
There was a physical change from 2014 to 2015, but its not quite as obvious, you have to know where to look for it. I have developed more muscle and my cardiovascular endurance has improved. More importantly, I have changed on the inside. I am more confident, I am happier, and I am more driven.
As you can see, things have changed over the years. Thankfully I fixed my eye makeup too! LOL. The most drastic physical change was between 2013 and 2014. There was change from 2014 to 2015, but its not quite as obvious.
When I started this journey back in 2010, it wasn’t to look a certain way. I wanted to feel better. Then in 2013 I realized I needed to make this a lifestyle and do it for life. Of course improved physique and fitting into clothes is a wonderful bonus, but feeling better and healthier is the most rewarding. I am taking better care of myself and working on getting stronger and more fit and it is showing. 😀 I am also taking time to do what I love. That feeds my soul and that happiness shows through as well.
Thank you so very much for being a part of my #fitfam! I am so grateful for all of you. The work that I share here is part of what I love doing. Thank you for letting me share it with you. If you enjoy it, be sure to SUBSCRIBE!!
